Katie Peyton
Hometown: Zanesville, Ohio.
Education: Miami University-B.S. in Adolescent Language Arts Education
Leadership Experience: I work as a high school English teacher in downtown Cincinnati. I love the opportunity to lead groups of teenagers in their study of literature and writing every day. Since the school I work for is small, I have formed wonderful relationships with many of my students. I think of myself as their part-time advisor in addition to English teacher. Prior to that, I worked as a camp counselor in Ohio and Maine whenever I got the chance to do it. My passion lies in experiencing the outdoors with new people!
What AAVE means to me?: The opportunity to combine so many of my goals - working with teens, traveling, and being outside - is a dream come true. It is wonderful to get to travel in my non-teaching months and have a change of scenery!

Favorite Quote: "Teacher seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire to save the world." - Daniel Quinn, Ishmael
The Perfect Day: I love days that are busy and spent mostly outside. I would start it off with a swim, preferably somewhere cold. Then I would spend the day climbing, hiking, and picnicking outside. The only requirement is to spend it with close friends or family and try something new. I would end the evening off with good conversation over a fire and the hope to do it again the next day.
Dream Job: Traveling the world as a journalist or writer. Meet new people, pursue my passions and get the chance to make a difference!
Dream Vacation: A few months in Europe with my closest friends. We've been talking about it for years. We'd re-visit all our favorite places in Britain, Ireland, Germany, and Spain and get the added bonus of experiencing it together!
What I do when I'm not at AAVE: Teaching English! I'm planning lessons and grading papers. I spend a lot of time getting to know Cincinnati and meeting new people in the area. I also enjoy the pursuit of free time to get outside more. In any down time, I catch up on my favorite authors: Jane Austen, Sherman Alexie, Neil Gaiman, and Shakespeare.
