Time of our lives!! From Rock n’ Roll #2

Hello to Abbott, family and friends back home!
Our group, also known as ” The Siestas,” has made it back safely from
rock climbing at Shelf Road, we are having the time of our lives! We
have been eating really good food, having jam circles around the
evening camp fires and playing lots of Mafia!
Alana was our first leader of the day. She wore the moose hat with
pride and set a really good example as ‘Leader Of the Day’ (LOD).
We climbed up to a 5.9+ route and Jordan even climbed a challenging 5.10!
Tom learned how to mock-lead, which is a very safe way of learning how
to clip into bolts and set up your own top rope route while on top
rope!!
Chris, one of our leaders, wakes everyone up with his lovely
guitar playing and Amy is looking forward to leading some fabulous dance
parties! We have been playing music in the evening and Joel has been playing
some incredible drums!
After rock climbing we enjoyed Mt. Princeton’s Hot Springs and hot
chocolate to keep our spirits up after lots of rain. We also
celebrated Sam’s birthday in true Rock’n'Roll style. Yesterday we
began our 5-day kayaking course. Sunshine is on our side as we have
been paddling the river. Many of us learned how to do Eskimo rolls,
including Joel and Eric.
We have had some wonderful LODs and nightly meetings. Marie ran a great
meeting last night ending with a campfire and s’mores.
Lucine and Nic have been teaching us how to speak French - by the way Nic is
completely addicted to Hot Chocolate but Nic and Marie are cooking us a
French Dinner tonight. Yummy!
Sydney is the LOD today. She is leading the group with confidence and
joy!
Erica has been keeping us entertained with her amazing drawings and
accents.
Eric has been leading our hacky-sac circles and everyone is getting
really good at Hacky-sac during down time.
In a few days we are going to be heading out for our overnight
kayaking adventure and then off to our service project. We will
complete our final Colorado Adventure in style, hiking two 14,000 ft.
peaks (Grays & Torreys)!
Tomorrow morning, “Team Awesome” is going to make really delicious
chocolate chip pancakes. Can’t wait. We hope all is well with everyone
back home!! Best news of all, the weather is warming up and drying out so
everything will be blue sky!
We will call home soon.
Until Next time!
