Boot Saddle Paddle #1 Halfway Through!!

What a trip! Lets see here, the last time we posted was just before the rafting. That started off with a bang. First we were introduced to our lifejackets which each had a specific name such as: Cilantro (for Tessa’s), Squid (for Nate’s), and plate (for Guillermo’s)….. Within the first half an hour of rafting we encountered some massive rapids. Luckily we named our life jackets for good luck! The next day we started using the “duckies” which are inflatable kayaks and the perfect thing for having water fights and trying to take over each other in the river!

After the rafting adventure we stayed in Moab and fell in love with the town. This is where we held a birthday party for Jaclyn at a big sand hill. It was a great party, running up and down the sand hill, whipped cream fight, glow in the dark sticks flashing around, B-day cake, dancing next to the van and hanging out with this random toad that jumped into the middle of our dance party. Some of us tried to kissed the toad to see if one of us could turn it into a prince… but no luck! The next day only got better when we got to hike up and see the famous delicate arch (that’s the arch you see on the Utah license plates.)

We had to move on and leave our sun tanning days behind in Utah and grab our cowboy hats for our 4-day horse-packing trip in Colorado. It took a short amount of time for us to become attached to our horses, especially for Eddy and Sarah and their horses Foxy and Streak who did became their hero of the day! We did the 7-mile ride into our base camp and feasted on dinner prepared for us by our “horseboys”. We took our horses and ended up at a lake where Val, Nick, Nate, Jarrad, Tyson and Josh attempted to prove their manliness by spearing fish. Unfortunately we did not get a fish dinner. A great thing here is that there’s never a dull moment with us and we always find something to do, for instance one day after dinner we ended standing around an ant hill where we all ate an ant at the same time, it took Raquel a little bit but she ended up joining the ant eating party!

We had a blast on the horses and our good vibes took us down to Mesa Verde where we have just viewed some amazing cliff dwellings created by the Indians over 700 years ago.

This last drive we all said our highlight of the trip so far and we thought you might like to read what they were:

Valdemar: I think that the whitewater rafting and the cliff jumping is some of the thousands of highlights that we have had on this trip. This is better then I could imagine.

Eddy: Riding my horse and galloping.

Tessa: I love the great scenery all the time.

Jarrad: Definitely my favorite part was having a snowball fight and making great friendships.

Nicole: There have been so many highlights on this trip so far but my favorite was cliff jumping on the 4th July. That was also the day that we were a complete family.

Josh: Going through rapids on the duckies and the strong friendships I have made.

Raquel: There have been so many things we have done that I never thought I would experience in my life. The Delicate Arch definitely amazed me the most so far. Also, I loved cliff jumping and seeing the waterfall in Ouray, Colorado.

Sarah: The entire day on the 4th of July was my highlight of this trip. We went cliff jumping into a waterhole. It was something crazy and spontaneous that I had never done before. The rest of the day after the cliff jumping was also awesome because we lit fireworks in a park and grew much closer to each other.

Guillermo: The entire trip is my highlight because it’s a mixture of the best summer I have ever had. I can only describe it like this because this trip is so awesome that this trip by itself is my highlight!

Fran: We’re only two weeks in and this is already the best summer I’ve had in years. My best highlight so far is probably the cliff jumping on the 4th of July. Horse riding was wicked to, so is everyone on the trip.

Jaclyn: I can’t believe the trip is already half over. I have tons of amazing memories. I loved sleeping under the stars with all of my friends. It was so beautiful and fun too. I love waking up knowing that I’m surrounded by my new family.

Nathan: My highlights of the trip was definitely where everyone was playing in the red ant hill, mainly when I laid in the ant hill for 1:40 and a total of 2:10 and also when every one ate ants and all the other fun things we’ve done.

Nick: I’ve had a ton of fun cliff jumping and rafting through skull rapid. This trips awesome!

We’re off to the Indian reservation for our service project and then the beautiful Havasu waterfalls…

Love the Boot Saddle Paddle Family
