Ni Hao from China!

Ni Hao!

Wow this is a huge adventure - trains, planes, buses, hikes and so much to see and do. We are all tired, but still excited to be where we are and seeing all the sights! Yesterday brought us to the Terracotta Warriors, which was an amazing historical site and a bit overwhelming in it’s size! Today we had an early morning Tai Chi lesson and then another community service project at the Xi’an Huiling school, working with people who have disabilities. The students there performed some dances for us and showed us the handicrafts they make. We had the opportunity to dance with them and help out with their craft-making too. Only one more overnight train, the Great Wall, and Beijing city before we say our final fairwells. Hard to believe it’s already almost over!

Notes from the China group:

Trip is going well. Teaching the chinese students English was nice. The food is much better. We got to see the Terracotta Warriors and it was really amazing. There were about 7 thousand of them. Anyway, everything is going good and we are going to the Great Wall soon. Really pumped!

Trip is really cool. Getting to Chengdu was a relief, as everything was colder due to altitude. We were pushed back into reality landing in Xian, though: hot and humid! It is fun bargaining with street vendors to get souvenirs for 10 cents instead of 20. Holding a panda was worth the price and I’m excited to get to Beijing!

Right now everyone is exhauted but the trip has been so much fun. The sites have been amazing. Im looking foward to the the many steps of the Great Wall. Hopefully I make it! I miss my family and friends but im going to miss it a lot here in China and everyone I’ve met :(

Well I’ve had fun … but i’m exhausted and so is everyone else! The toilets are still a bit weird for me… the markets are very different here too… there are so many people that it is easy to accidentally get pushed but it’s funny and I’m learning how barganing works in this country! Going to Beijing tonight - see ya in 4 days! I still don t want to leave.

Today we were in disbelief when we saw puppies for sale for 12 dollars (100 yuan)! Dancing with the chidren with mental disabilities was very rewarding because they seemed very exited and enthusiastic that we were there. We feel totally famous here and we get our picture taken constantly, though the awkward stares cam be unsettling! The Terracotta Warriors were awesome. The last 3 days will be great and I’m really exited for the Great Wall!

I almost bought a puppy today. It was 12 USD and way cuter than my dogs! Terracotta Warriors was really cool. I also found a western toilet with toilet paper and soap. I gave it an A-!

The trip is still amazing and I am enjoying every minute. Since I left my last blog we have done so much, spending time shopping in Lijiang, spending time with the Monks on Mt. Emei and also hiking the mountain to the top where we were met by a huge gold Buddhist statue, bathing in hot spa’s in Chengdu and seeing the massive collection of Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an. Can not wait to get into Beijing and climb the Great Wall and see the Forbidden City.

I’m really enjoying my last few days here in China. I had a lot of fun seeing the giant golden Buddha on Mt. Emei. The Terracotta Warriors were really interesting as well. I’ve seen a lot of different things here, such as a litter of puppies on the street that cost 100 RMB. I’m looking forward to the Great Wall and seeing Tianamen Square.

I’m going to make it short because we have to go to dinner, but I’ve had a blast in China so far. Everywhere we have gone I learned something new. Whether it is eating the different styles of Chinese food or finally getting used to the squat toilets, China has been a place for growth. I can’t believe that our journey is coming to an end, it feels like a couple of days ago we arrived. I can’t wait to climb the Great Wall!!!
p.s. Really appreciate everyone who made this trip possible!

Ummm yeah - I’ve been enjoying the last few days. Pandas are adorable. The smells are still hard to get used to, but it’s been fun! Looking forward to the Great Wall.
