Our Colo Disco #2 Team checks in…
Posted by Nate at AAVE in : Colorado Discovery , trackback
Hello from sunny Crested Butte, Colorado! It is Day 4 of our epic journey through the Centennial State. We just finished mountain biking the famous Lower Loop Route through the colorful valley outside of Crested Butte. While the ride was challenging, we all feel a great sense of accomplishment and group pride right now.
After arriving in Denver and driving to our camp near Leadville, our first activity was a magnificent day hike to Timberline Lake in the San Isabel National Forest. Some of the group contemplated stopping about a mile from the top, but encouraged themselves to finish the hike. The payoff was totally worth it! We arrived at the beautiful alpine lake and spent some time taking pictures, watching the cutthroat trout and dunking our heads in the freezing water!
We have done a lot of travelling so far to reach our current destination, but we are having a blast sharing each other’s music in the van, which we’ve named “Seth Rogan”. We have also been playing DOZENS of games, including Big Booty, Psychiatrist, Freeze, Man From Mars, the Human Knot and Ultimate Frisbee. Tomorrow we are driving to Aspen to prepare for our service project with the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, then on to rock climbing, whitewater rafting and more!
This group is made up of fantastic and unique individuals who all add their own spice to our group dynamic. We have never met a more polite, enthusiastic and positive group of campers. Here is a little tidbit about each of our campers:
Harry is our reigning Big Booty champion, and our fearless mountain biking Leader of the Day.
Brendan is now known as “The Animal” after leading the entire group to the top of our hike.
Rachel and Braden, our resident southerners, our rays of sunshine every second of every day, and are still adjusting (without complaint) to the cold Colorado nights.
Rob has been keeping us entertained with his musical gifts and his collection of aviator sunglasses.
Sophie is the vocal leader of all of our group games, and continues to impress us with her acting chops and sense of humor.
Joe is a ball of energy, and loves to share riddles, games and fun facts with the rest of the group.
Andrew was integral in last night’s cook crew, putting together some tasty guacamole and quesadillas, and is always helpful to the trip leaders in cleaning camp and loading the van.
Gabrielle is doing well without her creature comforts in Chicago and loves sharing stories of her travel experiences with the group.
Paola, our first Leader of the Day, can’t seem to wipe the smile off of her face, and is the glue that holds our team together.
Stay tuned for more from Colo Disco #2!
