The new BW#1A Blog!!

Hi everyone! We last checked in from Sequoia National Park and what a time that was! We kept pretty busy in Sequoia doing everything from a service project with the Park Rangers to checking out some amazingly huge trees! On our first day in the park we ran into another AAVE Bold West group led by Eric and Heather, what an awesome surprise! The two groups played a couple of games together and headed out to do our community service project! We drove to meet up with two backcountry rangers named Kelby and Taylor who talked to us about proper trail use and how to keep the park looking beautiful! They told us that hikers were veering off the set trails in an area of the park called Big Meadow and that we were going to help them create borders to keep these people on track! We collected rocks and lined the trails with them to keep the area looking nice, then super soaked the other group in a water fight (Sorry Eric, Heather and Bold West 2 – the truth hurts!) Later on both groups met up in the campground for a sweet combined evening meeting.

Next, we went on a short trek to see General Sherman, the largest tree (by volume!) in the world. Such a huge Sequoia! We learned that one of Sherman’s branches is larger in diameter than most trees height in the rest of the world. Next we headed to Yosemite to take in some more hikes and fresh air! We started our adventure by hiking up to Mirror Lake below the spectacular Half Dome, and then headed up the Merced river for an afternoon swim in the sun. The boys of the group (Aymeric, Javi, Hunter and Josep) took it upon themselves to throw every girl in the river! Next, we hiked up to Vernal Falls and biked to Yosemite Falls and then found a nice spot on the river for a little lunch and a swim.

The next day we drove to our camp in Toulumne Meadows to explore the other side of Yosemite National Park! Here we hiked up to a swimming hole on the serene Toulumne river and then got dinner in the park. The next day we packed a lunch and hiked to Dog Lake and Lambert Dome from our campsite. Exploring Yosemite was awesome, we even got the chance to see a few bears!

We are currently writing you from stunning San Francisco! This morning we took a boat to Alcatraz Island! We saw the infamous penitentiary and walked around the island, which had an amazing view of the city. It was a very fun (and educational!) historical experience. We will catch up again soon! Everyone is well, happy and the adventure continues!

Love from Bold West 1A!
