Howzit?!? from UH#2B

Waipi-YO! Aloha! The Ultimate Hawaii 2B group checking in to say in
Hawaiian slang, ‘Howzit braddahs?!’ Our three day backpack was a safe,
happy and challenging experience for all! We were challenged
physically by the intense uphill full of gnarly switchbacks - the
infamous Z TRAIL - that leads to Waimanu. We were challenged mentally
with 9 miles of muddy trails as well as Max Adamsky’s singing.
(Hahaha!) Thankfully, Kai is a real soul sister and she gave Max much
needed voice lessons on the hike! Hanako and Mercedes were hitting
high notes as well - climbing to daring heights to jump into a
delicious pool of cool blue water at the waterfall along the trail to
cool off. Cici took the prize for “most votes for Hero of the day” at
our first nightly meeting in Waimanu - after a long trek everyone
agreed that her cheerful attitude and humor really helped to make the
hike easy and enjoyable for everyone Arnaud proved to be our seasoned
expert hiker! But rather than leave us in the muddy dust - he chose to
hang in the back and be positive, cheerful, funny and motivating for
our struggling group members.
Ian loved the hike so much, that he almost decided to pitch a tent and
live on the trail - however, we enticed him back to “basecamp” at
Alberta’s with the promise of a warm (and gorgeous!) outdoor shower
which is heated in an outdoor woodburning stove and is covered with
exotic plants and is really divine! No one in the group loved the
shower more - or needed one more! - than our very own Michaela. She
was super dirty after a few minor wipeouts on the trail! The best
part: she never fell without a smile on her face - and giggling she
picked her self up, smiled even bigger and kept on truckin’ each time
she bit the mud!! Ben took the hike seriously and came out the victor
- we are proud of him and his tremendous accomplishment!
Our service project/cultural exchange in the Waipio Valley was
awesome. We got much love, aloha, knowledge and wisdom from Jason -
who showed us how to turn seeds into beads and use tea leaf to make
bracelets, anklets and necklaces. We wrapped the day up with frisbee,
a tasty meal and a good night’s rest before the hike out of the valley.
Up next: laundry (woopee!) town-time and a movie (shhhhh, don’t tell!
the group doesn’t know) - plus Volcanoes and the highly anticipated
THREE DAYS OF SURFING! Aloha! We miss you all. UH2B. Pack it out. Pack
it in. (Or…. something like that!)
