ULTIMATE COLORADO #2!!!!
Posted by Adriana in : General AAVE Trip BLOG, Ultimate Colorado , trackback
We are having an amazing time together touring around Colorado thus far! Our group has spent the last week in beautiful Buena Vista together enjoying the sporadic weather and having a great time getting to know one another. We started off our trip by whitewater rafting the Numbers section on the Arkansas River, which was a very technical, exhilarating, and fun!!! Taylor was a first leader of the day (LOD) and with her whitty enthusiasm and fun personality, led us all to have a great day down the river.
After our day trip down the Arkansas, we all geared up, packed our backpacks, and headed out on Hope Pass along the Continental Divide to go backpacking for three days, two nights. Marco (LOD) led our group up the pass to our campsite along the treeline. After learning many new hard skills about backpacking, we played fun games like Samari Sword, Camoflague, and Uno, the cook crew, “Super Jaih” (consisting of Jackson, Adam, Issy, and Hannah) made us an amazing meal consisting of macaroni and cheese with cookies for dessert. The next day, Ferdi (LOD) led us up to the saddle next to Mt. Hope which brought us through the tree line and up on a ridge that allowed us to take amazing photos and look out on some amazing views! That night, the “Super Troupers” (consisting of Taylor, Marlene, Ferdi, and Marco) cooked us some delicious tortilla soup and surprised us with some more cookies! On the third and last day of our backpack, Jeanette (LOD) led us down the mountain and brought us safely back to our big white van. Everyone agreed that the backpack was a lot of hard work, but a ton of fun!!
After backpacking, we met up with RMOC to go rock climbing for two days at Shelf Road. Shelf Road was great and offered a lot of various climbing routes from 5.5 to a 5.10 b! Each camper made it up at least two routes and had an amazing time taking pictures and cheering each other on as we all climbed. Eric, Issy, Marlene, Ryan, and Nico were our heroes of the day that night for their abilities in climbing and their strength in overcoming any obstacles they had that day while climbing. We all had a great time climbing and were so proud of each other with our great success climbing at Shelf Road!
The last two days we whitewater rafted again on the Arkansas for our overnight trip with our Performance Tours Rafting guides. We started our rafting adventure right were we ended our last trip on the Numbers. We ran the Narrows and Browns Canyon which was super exciting! We tackled Class III and Class IV rapids throughout each day and enjoyed a warm, delicious meal of steak and potatoes in between. We all had a great time, splashed each other in the water, and really pushed ourselves as a group to successfully and safely make it through each rapid!
We are headed north towards Estes Park in the next few days and are going on our next backpacking trip on the Baker-Bowen Trail in two days! We look forward to posting again when we get back from the backcountry so you can all hear about our backpacking trip!!!
Loving the AAVE Life!
