Feedback on Australia Summer Camp 2006

“…This praise of every aspect of the trip is most impressive considering Kendra has traveled several times before with other groups to several other countries, so she definately has a basis for comparison. I have already recommednded AAVE to many other parents and family members as the best place for a teen to experience adventure, comraderie, and culture while safely expanding one’s personal growth.”

Dan here saying thanks for a great time!
Everyone should be home by now and I can’t believe the trip is already over. This has been an incredible summer for me and I think that everyone had a great time. The group was amazing and was always open to new adventures. Their positive attitudes and teamwork helped make this a trip that we will all remember for the rest of our lives!
Thanks again,
Dan Zahn

Down Under Camp

Dan from Down Under,
What a week its been, surfing in Byron Bay was awesome. It rained on and off for a couple of days, but everyone kept a positive attitude and made the best of it.
An unfortunate thing that happened in Byron Bay was that two kids were sent home for smoking. The group has really come closer and I think everyone has learned a lot from the experience.
We are in the Blue Mountains right now north of Sydney and the gang completed a great solo hike in the morning. I met up with them after lunch and we all took a ride in an old rail car at the end of the hike. Tomorrow we head for Sydney! I was able to book us tickets for a concert at the Opera House. Everyone is excited, and I cant believe the trip is almost over.

Just a quick update of what we are up to:
The kayaking was so sweet! Sea turtles and our own private Island for lunch.
From there, we headed further to Myella and its been awesome. Horse riding, motorcycle riding, and whip cracking are just some of the highlights!
We are about to leave for Byron Bay with a stop along the way at the Crocodile Hunters Zoo tomorrow. We can’t wait to start surfing!

Dan Down Under with an update,
The Great Barrier Reef dive trip was amazing. So much wildlife made for fantastic adventure to what seems like a whole new world . . . good weather made for some great sunsets out over the Pacific.
My favorite part was the night dive. Everyone is having a good time and its a great group! They are bonding really well and have taken on a lot of responsibility already. If you haven’t heard from them yet, they will try to call or email in the next day or so. If you don’t hear from them, its the time difference and probably because they are having too much fun.
We are about to go sea kayaking around some islands so I have to go. I will try to get another update in a few days. Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks again, Dan Zahn

Dan, the leader dropping you a line from AAVE best trip, Australia!
Everyone arrived safely yesterday and we started dive training this morning. It’s a great group and I can’t wait to share the great barrior reef with them!
I just wanted to send a quick reminder that we have a mail stop coming up. You have no idea how excited these kids get when they receive a letter\ care package from home. If you have time to send one off it would make their day.
If you have any questions let me know.
Thanks again for your support,

Wow.
The trip is over and everyone should be home by now. What a great summer! I am sure that you are getting a great rundown of all the awesome stuff we did. I just want to add to it and say that this trip was one of my best ever. The kids had so much energy (sometimes too much!) and kept me laughing the whole time. The meals the kids prepared were some of the best I’ve had on these trips and I will forever be spoiled by how quick the group was at getting things done!
Your kids made this trip one I will never forget and I can’t thank you enough for that. Hope to see them on another AAVE trip next summer,

Australia Teen Fun: Beaches and Scuba

Wow! Time fies when you are having fun! We just arrived into Airlie Beach and are about to start our dive course.
After we said goodbye to Byron Bay, we headed up to the Crocodile Dundee Zoo. Sounds corny, but it was actually cool. We got to pet Koalas!
Next we headed up to Myella Farm. I think it was my favorite part of the trip. Motorcycles, horseback riding, kangaroos, and more great food! I was sad to have to leave, but it’s great to be back by the beach.
We stopped by some caves and the guide let us do some extreme spelunking! It was really challenging and the kids loved it!
Everyone is alive and well. I will remind the kids to give you a call soon.
More to come soon. Dan

Australia Adventure ‘Hello’ from Byron Bay

Another note from Dan and the down under posse.
We’ve been in hip and cool beach community of Byron Bay for a couple of days now and the weather has been perfect!
It was amazing driving up from Sydney seeing the landscape change before our eyes. The forest slowly transforms into to jungle as we head into more tropical terrain. The ocean is so clear, it’s unbelievable.
The group has been doing great surfing and loving the beach lifestyle.
Meals which we plan, shop and make on our own keep getting better and better. It is fantastic, this group is awesome at running ahead of time!
More to come soon, Dan Zahn–

Hello Families!
Our first day couldn’t have been better. Once everyone arrived, we headed through Sydney and up to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. It’s beautiful weather at the moment, and the group is off to a great start. I can’t wait to see what this group is capable of!
Â
Just a reminder, this trip only has one mail stop. The pick up date is July 15th so there’s not much time left. You have no idea how much it means to the kids to get something in the mail. Whether it’s a postcard or a care package filled with goodies, it doesn’t matter. It’s the thought that makes their day. The mail stop is as follows:
Â
Code name: Koala
C/O Active New Zealand
Island Gateway Caravan Park
PO Box 107
Airlie Beach, Queensland
Australia
