I just got a phone call from a girl who was told to use me as a reference for the Costa Rica program. I have also gotten 2 emails from other people asking about it. I just wanted to say thank you so much for giving people my name. It means a lot. I love telling people about AAVE, it is such a great program. If there is anything else I can do, let me know.

Dear Abbott,
I just received an email from a girl strongly considering going on the Costa Rica Spanish Intensive. She said that you gave my name as a reference. I would just like to thank you. I would love to tell other people about how I loved the program, and how great my summer was. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do that. If you have anyone else who is considering going and wants a contact, please give them my name. I would be overjoyed to tell them about it. Thanks!

Costa Rica Spanish Language Teen Camp!

“Spending this summer with AAVE was one of the best decision I’ve made. CRSI wasn’t just a teen tour where you do fun activities all day, (even though we did do that) it was more. You also gained first hand experience with ticos (host families) and perfected your Spanish speaking skills. Being taught in such small, concentrated classes made Spanish so much fun. The learning part of this summer not only helped me with Spanish, but also gave me a new attitude towards languages, and school overall. CPI was great, but the morning adventures were AMAZING. Everyday was the highlight of the trip, our excursions were thrilling and so memorable. While in Costa Rica I also made such good friends. We bonded zip lining in the rainforest, and snorkeling on the beach. I couldn’t have asked for a better summer.”

“My Costa Rican adventure camp summer rocked! AAVE successfully created a trip with a great group atmosphere and a lot of learning. On this trip everyone got along very well. I learned a lot about Costa Rican culture and my Spanish conversation skill increased dramatically!”

The sun is shining and we are at the beach! Here´s a new blog update for ya!
Hi everyone! Our last week in Costa Rica is going by too quickly!
We´re in Flamingo and at the beach now! This past week has been great. Monteverde was so beautiful and peaceful that it was hard for us to leave. We loved the Sky Trek and the Sugar Cane farm. After Monteverde, we traveled to Rincon de la Vieja volcano and saw lots and lots of Monkeys there. We also celebrated Jordan´s 18th birthday with a traditional Costa Rican cake!
Now at the beach, we are having fun in the sun! Tomorrow we´re going mountain biking and then surfing on Thursday and sailing and snorkeling on Friday! Then its back to the city for a final dinner, a celebration of Yegor´s 17th birthday, and a sad preparation for our goodbyes on Saturday.
Thanks for reading our blog! The last email we´ll write will be one filled with Do´s and Don´ts for the next Costa Rica Spanish Intensive group next year!

Costa Rica Teen Spanish Camp having fun!!

Hello from Costa Rica! The Spanish Intensive group is having a blast here in Monteverde right now! So much fun, in fact, that we haven´t written yet on the blog! Heredia was a great place for the trip to start… we visited the fruit market downtown and tried lots of amazing fruits, fresh tortillas, and even read the national newspaper the “Tico Times” in English and “La Nacion” in Spanish. The best thing, however, about Heredia was that our host families were so friendly and made us feel so welcome in a new country. Our families cooked dinner for us every night, did our laundry, and even made presents for us! In Heredia, we also did a service project in an impoverished neighborhood outside of the city. That, too, was an amazing experience, helping to build a daycare center for the kids there.
Yesterday was our first day of classes in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. It is beautiful here… very green and mountainous with a constant breeze blowing through the trees. Our new location, a “cloud forest” is a big change from urban Heredia but we have embraced that change and are challenging ourselves everyday. Today, we went on a Sky Trek Canopy Tour in the Cloud Forest- 11 zip lines with the highest being 426ft and the longest being half a mile! It was an incredible adventure through the clouds and mountains! This past week, we also visited a sugar cane farm, watched Italy win the World Cup, went to the coolest hot springs ever!, and had a perfect view into the crater of an active volcano!
Things here are pretty perfect right now, it´s hard to believe the trip is almost half way over! The thing you parents have probably been wondering most about is how our Spanish is! Well, great news, everyone is trying very hard to speak Spanish, classes are going well, and the host families are a great way to practice the skills learned during the day. Everyone is very enthusiastic about speaking more in Spanish than in English, and everyday we are improving!
That´s all for now… next week we go to the beach! Yahooo!!! We hope all is well in our homes and we miss and love everyone!! See you all in 11 days!
Sincerely,
Michelle, Johnny and the group
