The Finale of the Ultimate Adventure! - Ultimate Alaska 1

Hey Abbott and Bold Earth Families!

Well we’ve wrapped up our trip here in Alaska and put all the kiddos
on planes home. The trip was just incredible, Alaska’s beauty is hard
to fathom and the character of our campers is really out of this
world. Thank you all so much for being a part of the Bold Earth family.

Since we last spoke we’ve seen The Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward,
Sea Kayaked Resurrection Bay, did a service project with Alaska State
Parks at Bird Point, backpacked the Kesugi Ridge in Denali State Park
and had some wonderful fun/goodbye time in Anchorage before heading
home (whhew!!!)

The panoramas in Seward Alaska are some of the most incredible on
earth. The placid Resurrection Bay is rimmed with jagged mountains
jutting towards the sky capped with snow and often dusted with clouds.
The array of blues, lush forest greens, and brilliant whites highlight
the contrast between expansive and soft ocean and sky interrupted by
thousands of feet of drastic volcanic rock.

What a perfect spot for the Alaska SeaLife Center. At the center we
had the opportunity get up close with a wide array of the marine fauna
native to the area. We were able to reach in and touch some star fish.
We had the opportunity to observe Puffins fly above and below the
water. We got to see seals, sea lions, pacific walrus and otters
swimming playfully. We also got to see jelly fish and all types of
fish including salmon and halibut right before our eyes.

Sea Kayaking in Resurrection Bay was simply breathtaking. Our kayaking
guides said we were in luck with some of the best weather they had
seen this season. The morning was calm and the water glassy easing our
five mile paddle out. We saw many sea otters and some times as many as
eight bald eagles at once. We stopped for lunch at a beautiful spot
with a waterfall. In the afternoon the wind and waves picked up just
enough to give us a comfortable tail wind to bring us back for some
time on the beach.

Before heading off for our last backpacking trip we did a service
project with the Alaska State Parks at Bird Point South of Anchorage.
Wild Alaska is still relatively free of invasive plant or animals
species but is beginning to see the uncontrolled spread of
agricultural species. To help protect the pristine Alaska we’ve been
enjoying we spent a day picking sweet clover and oxeye daisies at one
of south-east Alaska’s most popular scenic view points.

Finally, the piece de resistance, our backpacking trip along the
Kesugi Ridge in Denali State Park where we would put our new camping
skills and teamwork to the test. We started at the beautiful Beyer’s
Lake. Our four day and three night trip was incredibly beautiful. We
saw a bear (from a nice safe distance, running salmon and gorgeous
mountain lakes. The weather was quite rainy however, so we decided to
finish a day early and have some fun under tarps back at Beyer’s lake.

Then we headed back into Anchorage for a fun filled final day
together. Had a pie fight, showered, ordered up some hand tossed
pizza, ate ice cream, encountered ninjas and ware wolves and then
washed the van in the rain while dancing to our favorite tunes!!

Thanks for the great summer!! Alix, Aaron, Little Angela, Ana, Miles,
Mike, Max, Jaclyn, Jacob, Sam & Dylan we miss you already!
Much love,

Andy & Angela
